DREAMS FROM THE CONCRETE MOUNTAIN (42 min.) by visiting filmmaker Alex Fattal

Dreams from the Concrete Mountain engages in an oneiric journey with former combatants from the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia to explore their contradictory subject positions as former militants and civilians, perpetrators and victims. The sojourn takes place in a vehicle uniquely equipped to depict their topsy turvy worlds through the shifting landscapes of Colombia’s armed conflict.

Alex Fattal earned his PhD in Anthropology from Harvard in 2014 and is currently a Mellon Postdoctoral Fellow at the Mahindra Humanities Center at Harvard University. He received a BA from Duke University where he was heavily influenced by the Center for Documentary Studies and the Department of Romance Languages and Literature. For five years in between his undergraduate and graduate studies he led multi-media projects with young people in South Africa and Colombia. His scholarship is informed by this multi-disciplinary background and draws connections between the social sciences, digital humanities, documentary arts, and political activism.
